I 3 i \ I ' i FOREWORD T h i s bulletin i s an up-to-date listing, with d e s c r i p t i o n s and functions, of t h e principal tools m o s t useful in the maintenance of central-office equipment and telephones manufactured by Automatic E l e c t r i c Company. I n addition to tools such a s s c r e w d r i v e r s , p l i e r s , and soldering i r o n s , the l i s t i n g includes a wide v a r i e t y of s p e c i a l tools and gauges which s e r v e p a r t i c u l a r p u r p o s e s in the maintenance of specific i t e m s of a p p a r a t u s , a s well a s such d e v i c e s a s r e s i s t a n c e boxes, t e s t s e t s , and the like. So f a r a s p r a c t i c a b l e , the v a r i o u s tool i l l u s t r a t i o n s a r e grouped in c l a s s i f i c a t i o n s according to u s e . T h e tool descriptions show, in addition to the i l l u s t r a t i o n s , the n a m e of t h e tool, i t s code number, and the u s e to which i t i s put. Included a l s o is s u p p l e m e n t a r y information s u c h a s precautions to be taken and dimens i o n s which affect tool u s e . All tools l i s t e d a r e indexed alphabetically in the front of the bulletin and n u m e r i c a l l y in the back. Distributing-frame t e s t plugs and c o r d a s s e m b l i e s have not been l i s t e d numerically but have been collected and put in tabular form. In s o m e c a s e s , tmo o r m o r e tools m a y be listed under the s a m e n a m e . An example i s tht. Unless otherwise identified, i t is s u g g e s t e d that the tool with the highest code number be o r d e r e d .
