They reduce outside-plant cost by allowing you to engineer for smaller gauge cable or wire. In combination, these repeaters overcome up to 85 % of line loss, provide up to 14 dB gain. "Series-type" A T-2 provides possible gain up to l OdB on non-loaded cable Jines. On loaded cable lines it is combined with "shunt-type" AT-3, to provide maximum gain of 14 dB at mid-point of line, 12 dB when unit is used as a terminal repeater. Type AT-3 is also used with AT-2 on circuits where excessive impedance discontinuity causes high "echo" or where AT-2 alone would cause other " hybrid coil" -equipped circuits and carrier channels to "sing." These repeaters can be used also on open-wire circuits, including side circuits of phantom and composite groups . Applications to circuits with superimposed carrier require special consideration as to the correct pl acement of the repeaters on the circuit.
